A Trip to Remember - Chennai to Kolli Hills

Sharing my experience of visiting Kollimalai/ Kollihills.

We planned for a two days trip on a weekend. Our car travel started from Chennai on Friday night around 1am. We went through the attur route and reached the down of kolli hills karavalli around Saturday morning 6-6.30am. You can find some small hotels here. We just took a break and had breakfast around 7.30am and resumed our journey towards the hill.

Kollihills have about 70 hairpin bends which are not that steep, roads are well maintained and it was good to go on. You can see some bamboo forest till 5-6 hairpin bends. On the 34th hairpin bend there is a view point where you can get the sight of the green and lushy wide forest.

There are monkeys sitting around the road walls. On the 50th hairpin bend there is an another view point. On the 67th hairpin bend you can see a temple, we havent stopped there. It was around one hour travel when we finally reached 70th.

We booked a normal hotel which is comfortable and reasonable. On the way you can see many pepper plantations, gauva fruits , pineapples and lemons which are the source for people living there.

On Saturday Morning we visited Massilla Aruvi which is 3km from our stay. The falls was peacefull and nice. Here you can try Mooligai Soup , Paniyaram (Chutney was so good) and pineapples and jackfruits.

There is one fuel station on the hill.

We came back to hotel and had good lunch and took rest until 5pm. Then again we started to another place called Seekupaarai View point for Sunset. For this we travelled through a place called Semmedu , where you can find quite a number of shops like a small town.

From Seekupaarai, you can witness a beautiful Sunset and its simply awesome. After this we had our dinner on the way and back to stay.

On Sunday morning we started our journey to Aagaya Gangai Aruvi which is 4km from our stay. Here you can find an Ancient Lord Shiva temple Arappallieswarer kovil which is visited by many Siddhars.. Here you can find hotels shops and we had our breakfast before starting our journey to Aagaya gangai falls.

There were about 1050 steps approximately to reach the falls, and few places were steep. Reaching near 200 th step itslf you can start hearing the sound of the falls. The falls viewed magnificient and the water was in such a force as it was raining past three days when we visited. Should not miss this place if you are planning for kollihills trip.

Then we spend sufficent amount of time and returned back, visited temple and back to stay.
After lunch we started for botanical garden. Later on we went for Boathouse. the ticket for each person is 35rs and went for boating. It has a children playarea and boating. This boat house  is maintained OK Kind. So if you are not that much intrested on boating, its safe to avoid.

There is also place called Namma aruvi we havent visited there.

Evening we started from our stay to Chennai. We reached Chennai around Sunday night 11.30 pm.

Hope this helps. Happy Journey!!
